And yet, fearless cliff jumpers hack their
way through the undergrowth with machetes
to forge a path through this unforgiving terrain.
Their mission: to find vertiginous waterfalls –
some of which reach 100 feet or more – to jump off.
They pay little mind to tourists or other Harlem locals – unless it’s a crew of BMX stunt riders known as the Cycle Squad Maniaccs.
Their ‘rideouts’ –spontaneous group rides through the streets – are now famed, and can draw other riders in their hundreds thanks to the power of social media.
Find yourself in the
right place at the right time, and you’ll catch the squad tearing through Harlem traffic.
They perform skills that thrill – from hair-raising wheelies to tricks like scraping or walking on the bus, which they’ve mastered over the past decade.

There’s also the pressure of waiting for the right conditions for take off. But once the perfect window arrives, a flight across the glacial lake and surrounding countryside is nothing less than majestic.
“Montenegro is a very special place,” says paragliding pilot Petar Loncar, who’s said to be the first person to fly in all seven continents.
Yet, of the many international terrains he’s explored, it’s Montenegro’s rugged, mountainous Balkan landscapes that keep calling him back.
“For me, Montenegro has the best mountains in Europe,” he says. “The ranges are the most beautiful I’ve ever seen.”
The best view is from up above, floating peacefully through the clouds: but only if you can get there.
The Medjed, a notoriously steep peak which sits 2,287 metres above the shiny Black Lake in Durmitor National Park, can be difficult to scale.

Although the Nordic nation’s unpredictable weather can occasionally make training difficult, the beauty of its isolated beaches puts Sara into a state of contentment, and this helps her persevere.
